The Ed Davis File Michigan Accomplishments: Played four years and won a Big Ten title (1992) and three bowl games, including the 1993 Rose Bowl, in his four years … Earned the Robert P. Ufer Bequest for his love for U-M in 1994 … Played in 49 games in four years and carried 303 times for 1,371 yards (4.5 yards per attempt) … Scored 12 touchdowns … Notched his only 100-yard game, a 105yard effort (on 11 carries), in a 61‑7 win over Houston in 1992 … Followed up with 10 carries for 84 yards in a win over Iowa … Scored the clinching touchdown and gained 96 yards on 22 carries in a 28-0 win over undefeated Ohio State in 1993. Michigan Memory: Michigan rode Davis to victory in a 28‑0 victory over undefeated Ohio State in 1993. Davis racked up 96 yards and was on the field splitting time with Tyrone Wheatley at critical moments. "They were on a pedestal, but we were so talented," Davis recalled. "I don't know how we lost four games. Our team was stacked. Even Tim Biakabutuka was on that roster, and you talk about feet. This guy could flat out run the rock, so when you went in, you had to have success right away or he'd get in and get 300 yards, probably." Davis made the most of his opportunity. "That was one of the most intense, exhilarating moments of my life," he said. "They put me in during the second quarter and kind of said, 'We're going to ride you out to the end. Just make the right decisions, run hard and hold on to the ball.' "On one of my first carries, a toss sweep to the boundary that I always hated, I found a crease, stuck my head in and got hit by a linebacker coming downhill so hard that my contacts ended up outside my eyelids. I knew I couldn't come out of that game, though, or I might never get back in, so I waited until the drive was over and Schmitty [trainer Paul Schmidt] hooked me up with another pair." Professional Accomplishments: Davis signed with the Detroit Lions as a rookie free agent and he spent time in camp with the club in 1995 before being released. Current Occupation: Assistant principal and high school teacher in Richland School District One near his home of Irmo, S.C. Family: Davis and his wife, Danielle — a pediatrician — have two sons, Micah (9) and Caleb (5).
