tional football awards, and Michigan stands well represented. A number Wolverines will be in the running for top individual honors at the end of the 2013 season. Here's a rundown of the award watch lists announced through July 15, and which Michigan players have a chance at them. Outland Trophy Fifth-year senior Taylor Lewan made the list of those vying to be recognized as the nation's most outstanding interior lineman. Seventyfive players from across the country made the list, compiled by the Football Writers Association of America. Lewan earned first-team All-America honors from the Walter Camp Football Foundation in 2012. Lou Groza Award Fifth-year senior placekicker Brendan Gibbons finds himself among the 30 players up for the 2013 Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Award. The Palm Beach County Sports Commission presents this trophy. Gibbons connected on 16 of 18 field goal attempts last season, and all 45 of his extra point tries. He's 30 of 40 in field goals and 112 of 114 on extra points in his career. Semifinalists for the Groza Award will be announced Nov. 4, and three finalists will be named Nov. 25. John Mackey Award Sophomore tight end Devin Funchess landed on the watch list for the 2013 John Mackey Award, presented annually to the top tight end in Amer- ica. Funchess earned Freshman AllAmerica honors a year ago after making 15 receptions for 234 yards and five touchdowns. Semifinalists for the award are announced Nov. 18, with finalists named Nov. 25. Maxwell Award Two Wolverines, Lewan and redshirt junior quarterback Devin Gardner, earned spots among 76 performers nationally on the watch list for the Maxwell Award. The honor goes to the most outstanding college football player of the year. Lewan has started 28 consecutive games for the Wolverines and 35 overall. Gardner appeared in 13 contests a year ago, completing 75 of 125 passes for 1,219 yards with 11 touchdowns. He rushed 47 times for 101 yards and seven touchdowns, and caught 16 passes for 266 yards and four scores. Semifinalists for the Maxwell Award are announced Oct. 29, with three finalists named Nov. 18. Lombardi Award Lewan and redshirt junior linebacker Jake Ryan are up for the Rotary Lombardi Award, given annually to the nation's top down lineman or linebacker. Lewan returned to Michigan after earning Big Ten Offensive Lineman of the Year honors last season, while both earned All-Big Ten honors. Ryan led the Wolverines with 88 tackles, including 4.5 sacks among 16 tackles for loss. He also forced four fumbles. The Lombardi Award will be presented Dec. 11 in Houston.
