combo guards from the region are strongly considering the Cavaliers. UVa already has a verbal commitment from Mouth of Wilson (Va.) Oak Hill Academy shooting guard B.J. Stith, who Rivals.com ranks No. 37 overall in the nation in the class of 2014. Phil Booth of Baltimore Mount St. Joseph narrowed his list down to Virginia, Georgetown, Indiana, Villanova and Temple in midJuly. Rivals.com ranks the 6‑3, 170-pound fundamentally sound guard No. 78 overall in the country, and he trimmed his list after claiming 14 scholarship offers. The Cavaliers offered Richmond native Robert Johnson July 9 and weren't the only schools to jump on his bandwagon. The 6-3, 180-pounder, who played for Chesterfield (Va.) Benedictine last year, has picked up new offers from the Cavaliers, Indiana, Georgetown and Memphis. North Carolina has also started the recruiting process with him, and he's planning on squeezing in some unofficial visits to UVa and UNC in August when he is done playing with Boo Williams traveling team. Rivals.com ranks Johnson as the No. 84 overall player in the nation in the class of 2014 after being a relative unknown nationally following his prep season. Johnson has earned at least 16 scholarship offers. — Jacey Zembal came to that realization. This was all on him and he handled it very well, I think." Shortly thereafter, the process rapidly began to shut down when the apparent choice became more and more clear. The Browns talked about it, and the father says he wanted his son to make the decision of when to commit in his own time, much in the same way he made the decision to not take official visits. "Six months ago, we were looking at everything and comparing the different options to each other," Brown Sr. recalled. "That was the main piece. Coach London was always being upfront with us and honest with us. That never changed. We also watched a lot of different players who were going to Virginia. We wanted to see the ones who had gone to different universities and see what happened in their recruitments. We paid a lot of attention to what was going on across the nation, especially players from Virginia. When they went to school, what happened? Where are they now? "The decision to commit just came with Mike London being able to talk him and to ask him questions and say, 'Are you with me? Do you want to be a part of this?' And no one really asked him those types of questions, approached him that way." On June 29, with plenty of family, friends, high school teammates from Oscar Smith High's 2012 Division Six state championship team, and future Virginia teammates gathered at the Brown's Chesapeake home, Andrew formally announced he would be attending Virginia. Brown joins with Virginia Beach, Va., defensive back Quin Blanding, the nation's top safety and No. 4 overall player, to give the Cavaliers two five-star commitments. Virginia and Notre Dame are the only two schools with two pledges from the 18 players ranked as five-star prospects by Rivals.com. ◆ Saturday, September 28, 2013 11 a.m. - 6 p.m. Pleasant Grove, 1730 Thomas Jefferson Parkway, Palmyra, VA 22963
