OCTOBER 2022 1 Dear Cavalier Fans, The start of the fall semester has been a busy one on Grounds, especially for our student-athletes. Through the end of September, our fall sports teams have hosted 35 home events, bringing thousands of fans to cheer them on. We are grateful to all of you who have come out to support these talented student- athletes. As we enter the fourth quarter of our fundraising year, we are now in our final push to reach our targets for 2022. With your help, we can fully fund all of our scholarships across 25 NCAA-sponsored teams for a total of $22 million. The cost of a full out-of-state scholarship for the 2022–23 academic year ranges from $73,668 for student- athletes in the College of Arts and Sciences to $85,978 for student-athletes in the McIntire School of Commerce. In-state scholarships range from $36,026 to $47,922 for the same schools. Each year we rely on contributions to the Annual Fund to fund a majority of these scholarships, with endowed scholarships fund- ing the remainder. We recently launched the Cavalier Academic Achievement Fund, which is also featured in this issue of the Cavalier Corner. I invite you to learn more about this important initiative that will greatly enhance the student-athlete experience and is a critical need for our coaches to remain competitive in recruiting the best student-athletes to Grounds. We have already received many multi-year commit- ments from donors who have agreed to support this initiative, but we still have a long way to go to reach our funding goal of $1.9 million annually. Gifts of all sizes are welcome and feel free to contact our office if you would like to learn more. The construction of the Football Operations Center is underway. The site has been active since September, beginning with removing the turf next to the George Welsh Indoor Practice Facility, which is the location for the new building. Our staff is now focused on finishing the fundraising to support the Olympic Sports Complex, which includes renovating the McCue Center. This phase of the Master Plan is critical to the future success of the programs currently operating in tem- porary facilities (men's and women's soccer, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's track and field and cross country, and field hockey). New facilities will enhance recruiting, as well as improve the development of these student- athletes. Our target is to have the new facilities completed in the spring of 2025, and we will need generous support to accomplish this goal! We are honored to have more than 7,200 donors who have made a commit- ment so far this year to support our student-athletes. This also includes almost 1,000 donors who did not make a contribution in 2021 and are new this year. Each contribution, regardless of the amount or the area of support, helps our programs and we are grateful for the generosity of all VAF donors. Thank you for your championship support!
