The Nittany Lions' head coach had helped deliver On3.com's No. 7-ranked recruiting class during the offseason. Upon the class's arrival, a group of im- pactful true freshmen were poised to make an immediate mark on the program. "One of the things that probably stands out about our team right now is that I love our overall depth. I think our overall depth is as good as it's been in a number of years," Franklin said at Big Ten Media Days in July. "In this class, what we've been able to evaluate since they've been on campus, is that there's probably a larger number of those young men that we feel are going to be able to impact our program and our organization earlier in their careers than in our normal recruiting classes. We're excited about that."
