"He has an uncapped ceiling because he's a gym rat. He loves to play, he wants to be great," Booth said. "People are go- ing to find out quickly that he's very dif- ferent than I was as a player. Way more like [former Seattle SuperSonics All- Star forward] Rashard Lewis than he is me. "He's a quintessential modern-day frontcourt player. His best position is probably ultimately going to be power forward. Even at the high school level, he played three, and in AAU they played him at the five. So, he's a versatile guy. He's unselfish and has a good feel for the game. He's just so much younger than a lot of kids in this 2023 class. I think he has a huge, huge upside." The younger Booth could also be a part of the upside that Calvin sees for his alma mater. Commending Shrews- berry's plan for the program, as well as the relentlessness of assistant coach Adam Fisher throughout the recruiting process, Booth foresees a scenario that could prove to be highly beneficial to all. "[Fisher] had a big-time influence," Calvin Booth said. "He built a great re- lationship with Carey. He's very detail oriented. He shows the guys he cares and also is a great basketball coach as well." Calvin said he's looking forward to seeing the future unfold, both for Carey and the program as a whole. "People will find out over time, but it was way more of a logical basketball decision than a legacy decision," Booth said. "I think people will assume it's a legacy decision, but I just wanted the best situation for Carey. "I'm glad it is Penn State because I have fond memories of my time there, and I'll always consider myself a Penn Stater. To be honest, if you'd asked me six months ago if he'd have commit- ted to Penn State, I'd probably have said no way. But after seeing Coach Shrews- berry's presentation and how detail ori- ented he is, how competitive he is, he sold us on the vision there, and I think he's going to have the program in good shape. I think it's going to be a winning program." ■ Booth is rated as the No. 79 overall prospect in the 2023 class according to On3, as well as the No. 15 power forward. PHOTO COURTESY BOOTH FAMILY
