Junior running back Blake Corum has shown no signs of slowing down during his run through the 2022 season. Following a 162-yard, 1-touchdown performance in a 34-3 win vs. Nebraska, he now tied for fifth on the U-M single-season, rushing touchdowns (17) list and tied for eighth in career rushing TDs (30), while also working his way to 17th in single-season rush yards (1,349) and 18th in career rush yards (2,378) through 10 games. "He's definitely having an MVP season for us here at Michigan," head coach Jim Harbaugh said on Nov. 7. "Be hard to imagine that he couldn't — the way he's going, — win the Heisman Trophy." When discussing Corum's game, Harbaugh invoked the name of former San Francisco 49ers star Frank Gore, hallowed grounds to stand on for Harbaugh-coached running backs. "You can't get anything by Blake Corum," Harbaugh said. "He is so focused at all times. He's like a chess player in that he can think several moves ahead. Whether it's protections, whether it's blocking schemes, he knows what our blocking schemes are. He knows what the de- fense is, he knows what the blitzes are, and not only who he has, but who others have. "Very similar to Frank Gore in that regard. They are two outstanding students of the game, who know the game and also have a tremendous feel for the game. There's no doubt that Blake will be, in my opinion, right on that same dance floor as Frank Gore in every way, as a player." Corum has gone for at least 25 carries in all but one game in Big Ten play, leading to some workload con- cerns. An elite offensive line that paves the way helps, but self-care has been an emphasis too. "I always go into each game wanting the ball," Corum said after the Nebraska win. "I want it as many times as they're going to give it to me. "I could play a whole other season. I'm feeling good. I feel like I just continue to get better. I treat my body really well. I feel great. I'm ready to go." — Anthony Broome PHOTO BY LON HORWEDEL BLAKE CORUM CLIMBS U-M RUSHING, TD CHARTS
