62 THE WOLVERINE DECEMBER 2022 BY CLAYTON SAYFIE F ormer Michigan Wolverines quar- terback Tom Brady led his 55th ca- reer game-winning drive in a 16-13 vic- tory over the Los Angeles Rams Nov. 6, snapping his team's three-game losing streak. The streak was the first of its kind for Brady in 20 years, spanning 302 consecutive starts. Trailing by four points, Brady and Co. got the ball back with 44 seconds left and no timeouts remaining. In a mat- ter of 35 seconds, the Buccaneers drove down and scored on a 1-yard touch- down pass from Brady to rookie tight end Cade Otton to take the lead. That, along with a 21-16 victory over the Seattle Seahawks in Germany the following weekend, placed the Bucca- neers back on top in the NFC South at 5-5. Brady's game-winning drive pushed him past former Indianapolis Colts and Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning, a Pro Football Hall of Fame member, for the most in NFL history. The two were tied at 54. Given that it was Tampa Bay's first win in 18 days and the fashion in which it occurred, the former U-M signal- caller was elated to come away victori- ous. "That was awesome," Brady said after stepping up to the podium for his post- game press conference. "It's just like the good ol' days when I was a kid, watching Tom Brady drive down the field," cornerback Jamel Dean said. "He's known for his two-minute offense, so seeing that happen live, it's like, 'Yeah, he's still got it.'" "Shoot, he's been doing that for 40 years. Nothing new. We just knew we had to get the ball in his hands, let him do his thing," defensive tackle Vita Vea said. In the win over the Rams, Brady also become the first NFL quarterback to reach 100,000 yards in combined pass- ing (regular season and playoffs) in a ca- reer. He finished the game with 100,116. Drew Brees with 95,724 yards and Pey- ton Manning with 79,279, rank second and third all time.
