APRIL 2023 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 13 ❱ INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS After an accomplished four-year career at Georgetown — where he won three Big East championships — Peter Thompson transferred to U-M for his final year of eligibility. An Ann Arbor native, Thompson has recorded 8 goals and 1 assist through seven games this season. Here are some things about Thompson that you may not have known: Best Aspect Of Being From Ann Arbor: "The University of Michigan. My dad is an employee of the University of Michigan — he has been for almost 25 years now — so I've grown up going to football, basketball, sporting events. All I knew was college sports." Favorite Restaurant In Ann Arbor: "You can't go wrong with Knight's [Steakhouse]." Best Meal He Can Cook By Himself: "A break- fast sandwich with well-cooked bacon, a fried egg and some cheese on top." Favorite Professional Athlete: " Tom Brady, [because] his roots to U of M are apparent, and the way he carried himself, with that underdog mentality. Lacrosse is an East Coast sport, so be- ing a kid from the Midwest, you're overlooked or kind of doubted in a way that kids from tradi- tional hotbeds are not. "Not anywhere near the level of Tom Brady, but I just aspire to have that same attitude, where it didn't matter who I was or where I'm from, I could compete with anybody." Sport He Enjoys Playing Besides Lacrosse: "I've gotten really into golf. In 2019, I was like a 20 handicap, and I'm down to a 7 or an 8 right now." Favorite Television Show: "I binged 'Entou- rage' last year, but more current ones right now, I'm really into 'Yellowstone.'" Favorite Movie: "'Prisoners' with Hugh Jack- man or 'Warrior' with Tom Hardy." Why He Chose Michigan: "When COVID hit, it was in the back of my mind like, 'Oh, I'll have another year of eligibility, it would be so awe- some to come home and play.' Not gonna lie, I always had that in the back of my mind, 'How cool would it have been to go to Michigan?'" What He Hopes To Do After Michigan: "I got a job in Chicago working for a real estate devel- oper, and I start in June." Favorite Memory At Michigan: "Sitting in the locker room before [Michigan's season-open- ing game against Virginia] and putting on the winged helmet for the first time. To join that legacy and that history of Michigan athletics, it was a pretty special moment for me." Overall Experience At Michigan: "I try to be aware of how lucky I am. You think it's a once-in- a-lifetime opportunity, and it really is. I passed up on it the first time — just the logistics of it and making it work the first time didn't work out, unfortunately. "You'll never hear anyone else say this, but I'm so glad that COVID happened, because it opened up this door that I wouldn't have other- wise had to fulfill that dream." — Clayton Sayfie Thompson was a four-time All-Big East Academic honoree at Georgetown, before transferring to Michigan.
