It closes out the season with a road contest at No. 10 Maryland (April 2 at 2 p.m. on BTN) and home games against Penn State (April 8) and Johns Hopkins (April 13). Sophomore attacker Jill Smith is far and away the Wolverines' most dangerous weapon on at- tack. She paced the squad with 45 goals and 51 points in 12 games played. Graduate student Kaley Thompson was second with 29 points (13 goals and 16 assists). Junior goaltender Maya Santa- Maria has a 9.14 goals-against average and a .509 save percentage. Water Polo 11th-ranked U-M sat at 16-8 overall and 4-0 in the CWPA after an 8-7 overtime loss at No. 15 Pacific March 19. The season picks back up on April 1 with CWPA matchups against Harvard and Brown, fol- lowed by a trip to Princeton April 2. — Anthony Broome The Big Ten released its winter 2023 Academic All-Big Ten teams on March 23 with 106 Michi- gan student-athletes grabbing the honors. Criteria for making the Academic All-Big Ten team include being at least in their second academic year and maintaining a 3.0 grade-point average or higher. Michigan had 164 honorees in the fall season. The Olympic sports on campus generated 77 of the athletes named to the winter Academic All-Big Ten teams, with ice hockey and men's and women's basketball accounting for the remaining 29 indi- vidual honorees. The Michigan cohort was headed by sophomore wrestler Zack Mattin, one of 22 winter athletes across the entire Big Ten who achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA.
