30 THE WOLVERINE ❱ AUGUST 2023 2022-23 YEAR IN REVIEW BY ANTHONY BROOME F or the second season in a row, the gymnastics program in Ann Arbor is home to the best senior women's college gymnast in the country. Sierra Brooks won the 2023 AAI Award in April, the top prize in the sport. Fellow Wolverine Nat- alie Wojcik claimed the trophy in 2022. Brooks' career is one of the most dec- orated in Michigan history. She won Big Ten Gymnast of the Year for the second campaign in a row and is the first at U-M ever to be named a three-time Regional Gymnast of the Year. Brooks made first- team All-Big Ten four seasons in a row. Brooks finished her senior season with three straight 9.950 scores on the beam and won 16 event titles — with two coming on the vault, three on un- even bars, two on the beam, five on floor exercise and four all-around titles. She tallied 38 scores of 9.990 or better with eight on the vault, nine on uneven bars, seven on the beam and 14 on the floor. U-M team accolades during her four seasons included a national title in 2021 and another appearance in the NCAA Championships in 2022. The team won both the Big Ten Conference regular- season and championship titles in 2022-23 and captured regular-season championships in 2020, 2022 and 2023. Brooks was named as team Co-MVP in FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR 'THE FULL PACKAGE' All-America Gymnast Sierra Brooks Excelled Athletically, Academically And Socially At Michigan In June, Brooks was named Michigan's female Big Ten Medal of Honor recipient. The award is presented to one male and one female student-athlete from the graduating class of each member institution that has demonstrated excellence on and off the field throughout their college career.
