36 THE WOLVERINE ❱ AUGUST 2023 BY EJ HOLLAND O n3 released its updated On300 rankings for the 2024 recruiting class in July. The update saw significant changes for Michigan commits. Cincinnati Archbishop Moeller run- ning back Jordan Marshall is the highest rated pledge in the class, moving up 45 spots from No. 76 to the No. 31 overall prospect and No. 2 running back na- tionally. Marshall committed to Michi- gan in March over finalists Ohio State, Tennessee and Wisconsin. He is currently the only top-100 re- cruit in the U-M class in the On3 rank- ings. "He's a really good player," said On3 director of scouting and rankings Charles Power. "Jordan's a guy who runs in between the tackles and plays against great competition in the Cin- cinnati Greater Catholic League. He has a pretty strong overall skill set. If you're picking a running back in this class who would be a good fit at Michigan, he would be among the few good ones, in terms of his style." Brandywine (Md.) Gwynn Park edge Devon Baxter saw one of the biggest jumps in the class, going from a low four-star recruit to the No. 199 overall prospect nationally. Charlotte (N.C.) West Charlotte line- backer Jaden Smith was also a new addi- tion to the On300, going from a three-star recruit to four-star status as the No. 248 overall prospect nationally. Both Baxter and Smith committed to Michigan last month and have some of the biggest upside in the class. The final new addition to the On300 was Pittsburgh Central Catholic line- backer Cole Sullivan, who moved up from a three-star recruit to a four-star, and No. 256 overall and No. 19 at his position na- tionally. Sullivan picked Michigan in May over Notre Dame and others. On the flip side of the coin, Char- lotte (N.C.) Providence Day quarterback Jadyn Davis suffered the biggest drop of the Michigan commits, moving down 72 spots from No. 115 to No. 187 nation- ally. Davis committed to Michigan in the spring in an announcement carried live on ESPN. A handful of other Michigan commits also experienced big drops from On3's scouts. Kansas City (Mo.) Rockhurst of- fensive tackle Andrew Sprague moved down 23 spots from No. 118 to No. 141, Nashville (Tenn.) Ensworth athlete Mason Curtis moved down 32 spots from No. 134 to No. 166. Bellevue (Wash.) High tight end Hogan Hansen moved down 48 spots from No. 180 to No. 228 and Belleville (Mich.) High linebacker Jeremiah Beasley moved down 25 spots from No. 264 to No. 289. A trio of other Michigan commits suf- fered minor drops. Rochester (Mich.) Adams tight end Brady Prieskorn moved down 13 spots from No. 93 to No. 106, Austin (Texas) Vandegrift offensive lineman Blake Frazier moved down one spot from No. 209 to No. 210, and Harper Woods (Mich.) High defensive back Jacob Oden also moved down one spot, from No. 238 to No. 239. Overall, 12 of U-M's commits were featured in the updated On300 rank- ings release. In total, Michigan now has 26 verbal commitments this cycle and sits at No. 5 in the On3 Industry Team Recruit- ing Ranking. The Wolverines are ranked No. 2 in the Big Ten behind Ohio State (currently No. 2 overall behind Geor- gia). QB COMMIT JADYN DAVIS COMPETES IN ELITE 11 Charlotte (N.C.) Providence Day four-star quarterback and Michigan commit Jadyn Davis finished in the top 11 in this year's Elite 11 finals. He was the first U-M pledge since J.J. McCarthy to be invited to the nationally renowned showcase. Davis finished the multi-day out- ing with a strong performance during the seven-on-seven portion. He was able to advertise his game-command- ing ability in a live setting in which he completed 73 percent of his passes and averaged a touchdown once every 4 at- tempts. His best throw came on a deep route up the seam to find 2027 DeSoto (Texas) High wide receiver Ethan Feaster, who holds a Michigan offer, in the back of the end zone. "The Wolverine pledge looked by far the best he had all week, completing 11 of 15 passes for 4 touchdowns," said On3 director of scouting and rankings Charles Power. "Davis showed good zip on his in- termediate passes and had nice touch on a few corner routes that went for scores. "The 6-foot-0.5, 190-pounder has a longer backstroke on his throwing mo- tion that can affect the release time and accuracy on his shorter passes. He was at his best over the course of the week when ❱  MICHIGAN RECRUITING NOTEBOOK Michigan Commits Rise, Fall In On3 Rankings Update Cincinnati Moeller running back Jordan Marshall is the highest-rated pledge in the U-M class.
