For his efforts, Hollins was the first weekly nominee for the 2023 Capital One Orange Bowl-FWAA Courage Award Sept. 21. 20 Kills recorded by first-year outside hitter Lauryn Bowie in UVA's 3-2 triumph over Columbia Sept. 2. That is the most by a UVA first- year player since Sarah Billiard had 20 against Appalachian State in 2017. 25 Players were included on the watch list for the 2024 ANNIKA Award (presented annually to the nation's most outstanding female col- legiate golfer), including Virginia third-year Amanda Sambach. Last season, Sambach was one of the 10 finalists for the honor and picked up first-team All-America honors from Golfweek. 75 - Yard touchdown pass from Anthony Colandrea to fourth-year running back Kobe Pace on the first play of the second half of UVA's 36-35 loss to James Madison on Sept. 9 — the longest ever by a UVA first-year quarterback, topping the previous mark of 73 yards set by Todd Kirtley versus North Carolina State in 1978. Colandrea finished the game with 2 touchdown passes, matching the school record for a first-year held by Jameel Sewell (2006) and Scott Gardner (1972). The 75-yard completion was also the longest by the Cavaliers since 2021. " He's a walking miracle. " — Virginia football head coach Tony Elliott on Mike Hollins HOO'S TWEETING 100th ACC victory for UVA men's soccer head coach George Gelnovatch was a 3-1 triumph over North Carolina State Sept. 16 at Klöckner Stadium. He is just the second coach to record 100 ACC victories, and the first to hit the milestone at a single school. Jay Vidovich hit the milestone in 2022 with combined victories at Wake Forest and Pitt. 146th Overall in the class of 2023 is where On3 ranks Virginia men's basketball signee Christian Bliss, who joined the program after reclassifying from the class of 2024 in August. The 6-4, 200-pound guard from Whitestone, N.Y., averaged 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for Bucks County (Pa.) George School on his way to being named the Non-Penn- sylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Player of the Year in 2022-23.
