32 CAVALIER CORNER On Saturday, October 28, the Virginia Women's Swimming and Diving program celebrated its 2023 National Championship title! The Virginia Athletics Foundation hosted a blue carpet event at The Forum Hotel that included a formal dinner and ring ceremony. In his re- marks, Head Coach Todd DeSorbo expressed his appreciation to each student-athlete, coach, staff mem- ber, and parent who contributed to the team's success during the 2022-23 season. Virginia becomes the fifth pro- gram to win three consecutive championships and their newest rings commemorate this achieve- ment beautifully. Gold banded, the face of the ring includes diamond accents around its edge and fea- tures an NCAA trophy with a navy- colored V-Sabre logo in its center with "National Champion" engraved below. On one side, the athlete's name is etched in gold with a diamond strip below it, followed by Virginia's Cav Man logo. On the other side, "3 PEAT" appears above three NCAA trophies. Earlier in the day, the 2023 National Championship banner was unveiled prior to the team's dual meet against Texas where the women won, 119-48. Reflecting on the weekend celebrations, Head Coach Todd DeSorbo said, "The women continue to impress our staff and those following our sport closely, considering what they've accomplished over the last three years is no easy feat. I know how hard they work every day. Our staff sees their commitment to achiev- ing excellence and we have the honor to watch them support each other. Last season was impressive, and we are excited to continue to help the team accomplish at a high level in the pool, the class- room, and in life. Most don't see how successful they are in the other areas of their lives in addi- tion to in the pool. They are the most impressive group of women I've ever seen. I'm proud that they continue to see their hard work paying off, and we'll do our best to continue to pave a road for them to have a great experience and continue to achieve at a high level." VIRGINIA MEN'S TENNIS RING CEREMONY RECAP On Friday, October 20, the Virginia Men's Tennis team celebrated its 2023 National Championship title at the Darden School of Business' Abbott Center with families, friends, and donors. The festivities were hosted by the Virginia Athletics Foundation and included dinner and a memorable ring ceremony. Guests enjoyed remarks from the champion- ship team's captains, Ryan Goetz and Alex Kiefer, who provided fun highlights from the season. Men's Tennis Head Coach Andres Pe- droso also shared memories from the historic season and thanked all who have helped the Cavaliers repeat their National Champion- ship. Pedroso credited the team's ability to "work mentally" in practice while becoming comfortable with being uncomfortable and pushing themselves beyond their limits each day as the key to their success. Pedroso invited each student-athlete to join him and other members of the coach- ing staff on stage to receive their champion- ship rings together. Each ring box included a stand-alone light fixed inside the box that highlighted details of the ring's design. The face of the ring features a gold V-Sabre centered between two NCAA trophies sur- rounded by navy and orange stones. On the ring's side, several flags were included to honor each athlete's home country. At the close of the evening, Head Coach Andres Pedroso said, "Our entire program is humbled by the fact that we were able to cel- ebrate another team national championship this fall, thanks to the ring ceremony hosted by the Virginia Athletics Foundation and Darden. What a special night it was highlighting the extraordinary achievements of our student- athletes and the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice that it took from all of them to once again be the very best in college tennis."
