MR. COMEBACK
During the UVA men's basketball team's final home game, Cavalier running back Mike
Hollins received a standing ovation when he was honored as the 2023 College Football
Comeback Player of the Year. It capped a series of recognitions Hollins received following his
fourth-year campaign. Hollins was named the Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year. He
was the Atlantic Coast Conference's recipient of the Brian Piccolo Award, given annually to
the "most courageous" football player in the league, and he was recognized by the Capital
One Orange Bowl with its Courage Award.
As a victim of the tragic shooting that took place at UVA in November 2022, where he lost
three of his teammates while they were returning from a school field trip, Hollins battled
to come back to the field, inspiring college football, his classmates, the University and the
community with his strength, determination and will.
