The women's basket- ball program celebrated the 50th an- niversary mark Jan. 23-24, 2024 with a full weekend of activities. Saturday kicked off with alumni visit- ing JPJ to observe Virginia Women's Basketball's team practice, tour JPJ, and spend time with the current student- athletes and coaching staff. Saturday evening the VAF hosted a dinner at Boar's Head for alumni players, staff, coaches and their guests. The dinner kicked off with a performance of the Good Ole Song by the Virginia Belles a capella group. Emcee and women's basketball student-athlete alumna Chelsea Shine Wilson then set the stage for a magical evening by reviewing the rich his- tory of the program and adding in some of her favorite memories from her time at UVA. The program featured head coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton (Coach Mox), former head coach Joanne Boyle, student-athlete alumna Val Ackerman and former head coach Deb- bie Ryan, who all shared a common theme in their remarks centering on impactful and meaningful relationships, lifelong connec- tions, and treasured memories that they made during their UVA careers. Sunday capped off an amazing weekend that left the alumni beaming with pride. UVA rallied to defeat No. 20 UNC in front of an impassioned crowd and alumni spanning across all 50 years of the program. All wom- en's basketball alumni and support staff were recognized on the court at halftime for a special celebration of the program's mile- stone anniversary. In the postgame press conference, Coach Mox thanked the alumni for their love and support and noted how powerful and encouraging it was to have them back on grounds. The VAF was honored to be a part of this milestone celebration and looks forward to celebrating 50 years of women's tennis in March. Women's Basketball 50th Anniversary Recap
