SEPTEMBER 2024 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 13 ❱ INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Senior middle blocker Jacque Boney is a key part of the Wolverines' volleyball team, which begins regular-season action Aug. 30 against Delaware. She appeared and started in 27 of 29 matches a season ago, playing 96 total sets and leading the team with a .315 hitting percentage. She tallied 236 kills, 64 blocks and 53 digs. Boney has had an impact since her first year in 2021, when she was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team, and she was a big-time player as a sophomore, too, record- ing 1.76 kills per set with a .238 attack percentage. Here are some things about Boney you may not have known: Best Aspect Of Being From Brookhaven, Ga.: "I'm close to a city, Atlanta, but also I'm in the suburbs, where you get some relaxing time and get the family aspect." Favorite Restaurant In Ann Arbor: "Aventura. It's a tapas place. It's my favorite restaurant ever." Best Meal She Can Cook By Herself: "Spaghetti squash." Favorite Professional Athlete: "Recently, it's been Annie Drews on the United States Olym- pic volleyball team. Watching her play, she just seems so confident, and she's so competitive. That's my approach to the game, being positive with a smile on my face. Overall, I've enjoyed watching Serena Williams play, just because she's done so much for women's sports." Favorite Television Show: "'Grey's Anatomy' or 'Vampire Diaries.'" Favorite Movie: "'The Hunger Games.'" Why She Chose Michigan: "I truly believe the University of Michigan can offer everything. A huge thing that I wanted out of the school was to com- pete and also cheer on other people that are com- peting in their sports. I wanted to be surrounded by those types of people who are so highly com- petitive and at the top of their game. Academi- cally, I always had a dream of going to the business school. I'm in the business school now, and Ross is a top-five undergrad program for business." What She Hopes To Do After Michigan: "Fi- nancial consulting or something in the finance world. I'm a huge numbers person. After a game, I'd rather look at stats than have someone tell me how they felt about the game. I think I can bring that same aspect into finance." Favorite Memory At Michigan: "On the court was probably beating Minnesota my freshman year at Crisler. It was just a really cool experi- ence. One of our players, Paige [Jones], went down, and she was our captain and go-to hitter. Another senior, Abbey Malinowski, came in and did a really fantastic job. It was a seamless transi- tion. We were able to beat a top-25 team in our home gym. Off the court, every travel experience is so unique, and that's where you find bonds and friendships with your teammates." Overall Experience At Michigan: "I'm super happy that I was able to come to this university. I wouldn't want to go to any other school. I was able to meet my best friends here, I've been able to get a great education, I've been able to com- pete in one of the best conferences in volleyball. Playing college athletics is a roller coaster, but if I had to do it again, I would do it again." — Clayton Sayfie ❱ Getting To Know Volleyball Senior Jacque Boney Jacque Boney is one of five seniors or graduate students on Michigan's 2024 volleyball roster.
