30 THE WOLVERINE ❱ SEPTEMBER 2024 Michigan returns just one player on offense who started at least half of the team's games last season — junior tight end Colston Loveland — but 10 athletes on this side of the ball have totaled 109 career starts in college football, so the group isn't completely bereft of experience. All eyes are on the quar- terbacks, and there's a true battle there. Here's a breakdown of where things stand as of mid-August with the start of the season drawing near. QUARTERBACK No. Player Ht. Wt. Cl./Elig. Remaining 10 Alex Orji 6-3 235 Jr./3 or 16 Davis Warren 6-2 195 Sr./2 or 13 Jack Tuttle 6-4 211 Gr./1 Note: The starting quarterback competition is "ongoing," with no "frontrunner," according to head man Sherrone Moore. Orji, Warren and Tuttle are believed to be the top contenders, and there's no timetable on when a starter will be named. RUNNING BACK No. Player Ht. Wt. Cl./Elig. Remaining 7 Donovan Edwards 6-1 212 Sr./1 20 Kalel Mullings 6-2 233 Gr./1 Note: Edwards and Mullings are a formidable one-two punch, and freshman Jordan Marshall and sophomore Benjamin Hall are battling for carries behind them. WIDE RECEIVER No. Player Ht. Wt. Cl./Elig. Remaining 3 Fredrick Moore 6-1 181 So./3 1 Amorion Walker 6-3 182 Jr./2 Note: Moore is "playing at a high level," according to posi- tion coach and pass game coordinator Ron Bellamy, and is "competing as a starter." Walker has "caught on quickly" after transitioning back from spending the spring at Ole Miss and playing cornerback at U-M last fall. WIDE RECEIVER No. Player Ht. Wt. Cl./Elig. Remaining 8 Tyler Morris 5-11 185 Jr./2 12 Kendrick Bell 6-2 191 So./4 Note: There are "no limitations" on Morris' game, per Bel- lamy, and he's slated to be the team's top wideout. Bell has improved quite a bit since transitioning from quarterback to receiver ahead of the 2023 campaign. SLOT RECEIVER No. Player Ht. Wt. Cl./Elig. Remaining 0 Semaj Morgan 5-10 174 So./3 5 C.J. Charleston 6-0 190 Gr./2 Note: Morgan has moved around beyond just at slot receiver, and, in his own words, he's working to become more of a "complete" receiver. Fellow receiver Morris said Charleston, a Youngstown State transfer, will "definitely play" a role. TIGHT END No. Player Ht. Wt. Cl./Elig. Remaining 18 Colston Loveland 6-5 245 Jr./2 44 Max Bredeson 6-2 240 Sr./2 17 Marlin Klein 6-6 247 Jr./3 Note: Depending on what personnel grouping Michigan is in, Bredeson and Klein could both earn starts. Bredeson is featured as an H-back and fullback, while Klein is said to be a solid in-line tight end with freakish athletic traits. Loveland, meanwhile, is regarded as one of the best tight ends in the country and on the watch list for the Mackey Award. LEFT TACKLE No. Player Ht. Wt. Cl./Elig. Remaining 78 Myles Hinton 6-6 342 5th/1 71 Evan Link 6-6 328 So./4 Note: One year removed from his transfer from Stanford, Hinton is the favorite to start on the left side, while Link is also competing for the starting job at right tackle. LEFT GUARD No. Player Ht. Wt. Cl./Elig. Remaining 68 Josh Priebe 6-5 306 Gr./1 55 Nathan Efobi 6-3 307 So./4 Note: Priebe is cemented as a starter, while Efobi is competing for a two-deep role. CENTER No. Player Ht. Wt. Cl./Elig. Remaining 51 Greg Crippen 6-4 309 Sr./2 62 Raheem Anderson 6-3 318 Gr./2 Note: Crippen and Anderson are battling for the starting center job, and both have taken snaps at guard this camp ac- cording to graduate Josh Priebe. RIGHT GUARD No. Player Ht. Wt. Cl./Elig. Remaining 58 Giovanni El-Hadi 6-5 310 Sr./2 56 Dominick Giudice 6-4 310 Sr./2 Note: El-Hadi is locked in to start. Giudice has played some center in addition to guard. RIGHT TACKLE No. Player Ht. Wt. Cl./Elig. Remaining 75 Andrew Gentry 6-7 327 Jr./3 79 Jeffrey Persi 6-8 310 Gr./2 Note: Gentry, Persi and Link are all competing for the starting role at right tackle. It's also likely that one of those three will serve as the backup at left tackle should Hinton go down. — Clayton Sayfie The Wolverine's 2024 Projected Depth Chart — Offense W A N T W E E K L Y D E P T H C H A R T S ?
