4 THE WOLVERINE ❱ SEPTEMBER 2024 QB COMPETITION 'ONGOING,' WITH NO CLEAR 'FRONTRUNNER' The biggest question with Michigan football ahead of the 2024 campaign is the quarterback position. The Wolverines are holding a competition to deter- mine the starter, with junior Alex Orji, senior Davis Warren and graduate Jack Tuttle seemingly the top three contenders. In mid-August, U-M head coach Sherrone Moore said the battle is ongoing. "They've all been really good," Moore said. "They've had their days that one guy's been good, one guy's been really good, one guy's been better — so not a frontrunner. Really kind of all on an even plane right now, and we'll see when we go through this week, next week and then game week." Understandably, the QB battle has been a hot topic on TheWolverine.com's message board, "The Fort." I feel like Alex hasn't stepped up, and it's Tuttle's job when he's healthy. So, by default Warren is still in the convo. MHart20 Sherrone is clearly not revealing anything on the QB situation before the season starts. Why would he? No sense in letting Texas prepare for a specific player and style of offensive play calling. I think that even if someone has stepped up or emerged as the clear No. 1, we're not going to know until Fresno State. DonQuixote88 As the old saying goes … "If you think you have two No. 1 QBs, it's more likely than not you actually have two No. 2 QBs." Blue Monster I don't think we know till Texas. I think we see all three against Fresno State. studed As long as Michigan is comfortably in control, that wouldn't surprise me at all. In that case the plan is likely to be very deliberate about what they put on tape … and what they don't. The game plan will be set up to just win the game with the ability to adjust and intentionally show and not show things. MRSharkFB COLUMBUS DISPATCH ARTICLE ON MICHIGAN Funny read. One of the points [in columnist Rob Oller's piece calling U-M an "outlaw program"] is that "cheating" bolstered the players' self-confidence, allowing them to win. I live in Columbus, and these fans are delusional. Psychodoc-AJ Weren't their last two coaches fired for cheating/ indiscretions? Cincinnati_Wolverine The fact of the matter is they cannot handle Michi- gan as the superior team in the Big Ten. It's been over five years, and they are beside themselves. They aren't winning this year either. Floridawolve Yeah, they aren't handling not being the best in the Big Ten very well. There is a sense of entitlement in Buckeye land that makes beating them that much more satisfying. Keep coping, Bucknuts! C-Mitty I wouldn't have cared at all if the shoe was on the other foot. They knew U-M's signs in 2018 and 2019 and I blamed U-M's staff for allowing it to happen. This whole thing has and continues to be so stupid. The Brown Jug Please tell me how The Don going 75 and 85 yards [for touchdowns] had anything to do with cheating, or us running it down their throats to chew up 7 minutes when they knew exactly what was coming. djsjr5 JACE HOWARD, MICHIGAN MAN I would like to commend Jace Howard for remain- ing at U-M for his fifth year. Amid a tumultuous offseason, Jace could have left alongside his father (coach Juwan) and few would have found fault in his decision. But he came back, and Michigan basketball is better for that decision. … While the vast majority of his teammates moved on, Jace remained true to the maize and blue. A sterling student-athlete, the rare two-time captain has gained Academic All-Big Ten honors twice and is on track to attain his U-M degree by the end of the summer. Jace could easily have walked away, satisfied with those accomplishments, but he stayed for all the right reasons. Every team needs a leader. Michigan needs Jace Howard. Ed McArdle Saginaw, Mich.
