No, seriously, this guy really knows his stuff. It looked like he was measuring West Virginia's defense at the start of the game before trying anything creative. And then in the third quarter, after Penn State went ahead 27-6, he took his foot off the gas for a bit. However, when he wanted to come up with a big play, he was mostly very successful. Does he have a lot more surprises in store for Penn Staters in later games? You betcha. He's probably going to make most of us forget about Joe Moorhead's offense some years ago. Can he maximize what Drew Allar and the other offensive players can do? I'm guessing yes. — DavidM I have droned on and on for years about play-calling being all about sequencing. You show the opposition the same look, but with several variations. You lure them into believing that your tendency in certain situations is to run certain plays out of certain formations. Then when you have them lulled into making complacent reads, you throw in your "tendency breaker." And you don't run this Key Breaker until you have first shown them what they EXPECTED to see, confirming their analytics of your tendencies. — SJLuvsLions You are so right. It took a while, but you can really see the way Coach K schemes. The casual fan may not ap- preciate the way you run two or three plays/looks that may go for no gain, than BOOM same look — different play — wide open. — BCrum I think the biggest thing that he does, not only with scheme, is describing the WHY. These aren't some gadget plays. To the naked eye, it looks gadget, but he does a great job of having legit concepts within the play that make them work. He does things that are extremely different than what you typically see. I am excited to get a month into the season when the team becomes comfortable running these concepts. It's going to be a fun season on offense. — DelawareLion He might be the mad genius we all thought Mike Yurcich was going to be. — CFett ON THE RESURGENT PENN STATE WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM … It was impressive that after giving up a 16-10 lead in the second set, they rebounded to finish strong and then blew them out in the third set [to complete a sweep of fourth-ranked Louisville on Sept. 3]. — NavyBlue I'm a buyer of this team. They have the hitters, they have the defense. We look all the way back. — North- ernStatePSU If they can stay in system, they'll give Nebraska and Wisconsin a run for top of the B1G. — PhillipintheValley 4 O C T O B E R 2 0 2 4 Penn State totaled 457 yards against West Virginia in Kotelnicki's first game as offen- sive coordinator.
