Nittany Lion football fans are aware of at least a few lines that have appeared intermittently through Franklin's decade-long tenure with the program, but one stands as particu- larly relevant in the early stages of Penn State's 2024 campaign. D u r i n g a sea so n - o p e n i n g 3 4 -1 2 win at West Virginia on Aug. 31, the first foray of a campaign loaded with hopes and intrigue for the program, the Nittany Lions calmly and efficiently snuffed out a month's worth of mis- placed confidence emanating from the Mountaineers. And they did so with junior quarterback Drew Allar at the center of it all, producing a confident, vibrant performance that stood in stark contrast to the conclusion of his 2023 debut as a starter. It was a defiant answer by Allar to an offseason of questions regarding his ability, and it called to mind Franklin's oft-repeated claim: "You're allowed to get better, right? You're allowed to evolve and grow."
