Allar finished with 204 yards and 2 touchdowns on 13-of-20 passing, while adding 7 yards on the ground with a TD. The quarterback believes that a big part of his job is to steady the Nittany Li- ons' offensive attack, lifting teammates in the process. It's a priority that Allar intends to carry forward as the noncon- ference slate gives way to Big Ten play. "I want to be the guy that sets the tone offensively," he said. "I want to show emotion and passion for the game, but I'm never going to dip down. I'm going to be steady the whole time, but I'm defi- nitely going to celebrate when things do go our way. "This is what we worked for since January. To come out here, have a fun time and be explosive — we're going to celebrate it as a team." With the conference season yet to be- gin, Allar's narrative arc is nowhere near its conclusion. Much work lies ahead. Frustrated over his performance in losses to Ohio State and Michigan dur- ing the 2023 regular season, Allar won't find another opportunity for redemp- tion until the Nittany Lions travel to Los Angeles for an Oct. 12 date at USC. Even then, the Buckeyes and a Nov. 2 rematch at Beaver Stadium loom large. Given the time and opportunity to improve throughout the offseason, though, the Nittany Lions are deter- mined to see their progress continue. They've put a support system in place that has allowed Allar to build confi- dence as he progresses through the rest of the season, and now they're looking to reap the rewards. "Danny O'Brien, Andy Kotelnicki and our coaching staff [have been focus- ing on] things that he did well last year and things he needs to do better this year," Franklin said. "And I think it's also just part of his maturation process. It's him being comfortable with being the starting quarterback at Penn State and everything that comes with it. "I don't know if I necessarily would have said that I knew it was coming, but I sure was glad it happened." ■ OFFENSE QUARTERBACK No. Name Cl. Ht.
