MAY 2025 ❱ THE WOLVERINE 47 ❱ MICHIGAN RECRUITING NOTEBOOK Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was heavily involved on the visit and also moved the needle for the elder Abrams. "Coach Moore was great as well," Nick Sr. said. "We sat down with him one-on-one. He's got a tall task, and he's up for it. He has a program that he's looking to revamp and make great. He's up for the challenge. He's straightfor- ward. Coach Moore let us know Nick is a priority for his program. He laid out how he sees the program growing the next couple of years and getting bigger and better. "They had a social outing at a bowling alley, and he came out with some of the other coaches and players. We learned about his family. He's a great guy. Mich- igan has a great coach. He's definitely the coach of the future for the team." The younger Abrams is ranked as the No. 8 linebacker and No. 165 overall prospect nationally, per On3. As a ju- nior last fall, he posted 77 total tackles, 9 tackles for loss, 4 sacks and an inter- ception. Along with being a talented football player, Nick Jr. is also a strong student in the classroom and aspires to go into business like his father, who is the CEO of a financial planning firm and a professor at Towson University. Michigan's academics caught their attention. "Michigan offers the best of both worlds," Nick Sr. said. "It has a great football program but also a great aca- demic program. Nick wants to look at business, specifically finance or real es- tate. We got to tour the Ross School of Business. We were there on a Sunday, and seeing students out there studying was great. Michigan has one of the best business programs in the country. From an academic standpoint, that holds a lot of weight for us." — EJ Holland NO. 1-RANKED 2027 QB RECAPS APRIL VISIT Michigan hosted several high-profile recruits for unofficial visits in early April, including Kavian Bryant from Palestine (Texas) Westwood High. Ranked as the No. 1 quarterback and No. 26 overall prospect nationally in the 2027 class, Bryant enjoyed his first trip to Ann Arbor and got an in-depth look at the program. "It was a good visit," Bryant said. "The coaches really showed some loy- alty. They treated me right. It was a really good time. Practice was good. It was fast paced. They had a lot of different drills. Getting to watch the quarterbacks up close was really fun." Michigan has a new look offense under first-year coordinator Chip Lindsey, who is set to bring a more balanced attack to Ann Arbor. Bryant, who passed for 2,282 yards, rushed for 812 yards and scored 42 total touchdowns as a sophomore, watched the unit closely throughout practice and was impressed with Lindsey's system. "I like the offense," Bryant said. "It's my style of play. Watching Bryce Under- wood in practice was pretty big. He was practicing really well." Lindsey visited Bryant during the win- ter contact period and put an offer on the table after watching him throw. The two spent plenty of time together during Bryant's stay on campus. "He has great energy," Bryant said. "He's fun to be around. He holds his players accountable. He told me that he's going to do whatever the quarterback needs. He'll let them go out there and play." Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore was heavily involved on his visit as well. "He kept it simple," Bryant said. "He said if you're going to come to Michigan, you have to be into academics, too. You can't just be all football. I think he's a pretty cool head coach." Bryant liked what he saw in Ann Arbor on his visit. "I would say Michigan is in my top 10 right now," he said. "I like their tradition of winning. They have great history. The staff was pretty cool. I had a good time out there." Bryant is looking to return to Michigan at some point this summer. Along with Michigan, he holds offers from Arkan- sas, Baylor, Oklahoma State, SMU, TCU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech and others. — EJ Holland Kavian Bryant of Palestine (Texas) Westwood High is ranked as the No. 1 quarterback and No. 26 overall prospect nationally in the 2027 class.
