Under the Dome the big picture Golden Anniversary On Sept. 18, 1963, Notre Dame's Memorial Library opened its doors, although it wasn't officially dedicated until May 1964. Renamed as Hesburgh Library in 1987, the 210-foot tall structure has 13 stories with a smaller penthouse at the top. Its highlight is the distinctive Word of Life Mural, better known today as "Touchdown Jesus," overlooking Notre Dame Stadium. Photo by cory lavalette
