Golden Anniversary
On Sept. 18, 1963, Notre Dame's Memorial Library opened
its doors, although it wasn't officially dedicated until May
1964. Renamed as Hesburgh Library in 1987, the 210-foot tall
structure has 13 stories with a smaller penthouse at the top. Its
highlight is the distinctive Word of Life Mural, better known today as "Touchdown Jesus," overlooking Notre Dame Stadium.
