Trailing 14-0 after the first quarter, 24-14 at halftime and then 30-21 following a Purdue field goal with
7:52 remaining, No. 23 Notre Dame rallies to defeat Purdue 31-30 on kicker Jim Sanson's 17-yard field
goal with 57 seconds remaining.
Free safety Tony Driver, a running back a year earlier as a freshman, intercepts two passes by Purdue
quarterback Drew Brees in the final three minutes. Driver had left campus earlier in the week after a
45‑23 loss the previous week at Michigan State.

Quarterback Jarious Jackson connects with tight end Jabari Holloway for a 17-yard touchdown with
3:36 left to cut the deficit to 30-28, and then Driver returns an errant Brees pass 37 yards to the Purdue
5 to set up Sanson's field goal. Driver clinches the game seconds later with a 17-yard interception return.
