Ba ketball Preview 2013-14 ■ Anthony 'Cat' Barber 2•G Fr. • Hampton,Va. • 6-2 • 170 Analysis: Barber is noted for his quickness and speed on the court, and should be an ideal fit for NCSU's fast-paced offense under head coach Mark Gottfried. He is the most highly touted prospect in the Pack's 2013 recruiting class, and thus it's not surprising one of the most likely to get into the lineup. He will battle sophomore Tyler Lewis for the starting point guard job, but Barber has the versatility and scoring ability to play some shooting guard, too. Career Highlights: Regarded by Rivals.com as the No. 27 overall player in the 2013 class and the No. 5 point guard in the country … Selected to play in the McDonald's All-American Game, where he had 11 points and four assists in 18 minutes … Is the 17th Wolfpack recruit to play in the prestigious all-star game … Averaged 20.2 points per game as a senior and broke former Wake Forest guard Tony Rutland's career scoring record for the Peninsula District with 2,097 career points … Became the first basketball player in the region to reach 2,000 career points … Averaged 21.3 points a contest as a junior … Participated in the 2012 Nike Global Challenge, averaging 11.8 points a game for the bronze medal-winning team … Played AAU ball for Boo Williams. Coach's Corner: "He's got a chance to become a great player. He's as good of an on-ball defender as I've ever had." — Head coach Mark Gottfried Personal: Given Barber's quickness, one might assume his nickname "Cat" is due to his athleticism, but in actuality his older sister gave it to him when he was younger … Enrolled in the First-Year College.
