Redemption Sophomore Running Back Shadrach Thornton Comes Full Circle S By Matt Carter hadrach Thornton was supposed to be one of the brightest revelations from the 2012 season. The thentrue freshman went from being a likely redshirt to a starter in the span of a week because of injuries. His first start: 21 carries for 145 yards and two scores against The Citadel during week four of last year. In the final three games of the regular season, Thornton ran for more than 100 yards each time, including 114 yards on 21 carries at No. 11 Clemson. He ended the year with a team-high 694 yards and three touchdowns on the ground. He also caught 30 passes for 274 yards and one score, which was a memorable 24-yard catch and run against No. 3 Florida State. A penchant for fumbling aside, Thornton appeared destined to become NCSU's feature back of the future. Then all of that was thrown into question this offseason. Over the summer, Thornton was cited for a misdemeanor assault. The punishment Thornton steadily worked his way back into the lineup after sitting out the season opener, logging 45 carries for 184 yards and two touchdowns through six games. photo by Ken Martin 96  ■  the wolfpacker 96,98-99.Shadrach Thornton.indd 96 10/22/13 1:55 PM
