from our readers Something else amazed me — why near the end of the game they kept running Toussaint into the middle of the line. Everyone knew he was going nowhere against a stacked line. It was like a brick wall. The kicker missed a couple of chip-shot field goals that would have won the game also, adding more sad drama. I don't think anyone who saw it will ever forget it. Even with bad officiating and bad luck, I think U-M would have won if Brady Hoke didn't play not to lose. Ed Jacobson Black River Falls, Wis. Ed, in the overtimes in which Penn State failed to score, Michigan needed only a made field goal to win. A sack or an interception takes away that chance. From the 25, they needed three or more yards to get the ball into an area that would set up a 30- to 40-yard field goal, where the kicker had been perfect the past two years. They appeared to play the percentages, and obviously, the result wasn't happiness in the valley, at least for the visitors. Hoke also noted U-M tried to score in regulation, rather than sitting on the ball and playing for the overtime.   From Our Website • I think John Beilein is the best coach Michigan has had since Bo. I know Lloyd Carr won us a title, but considering where JB started to where we are now, it's truly remarkable what he's done. And to recruit at a very good level when you consider how dirty college basketball recruiting is makes it even better. I pray this staff (assistants included) can stay together another 5-6 years because I think we can win a title with them at the helm. Trouten25 • I've had this conversation many times on this board before, and I know I'm in the minority, but I think Gary Moeller is one of the best coaches U-M has had in my lifetime, any sport. I think if he had stayed, U-M would have had huge success with him at the helm. A s for Beilein, he is definitely No. 2 or No. 3 behind Bo and Moeller. Carr is No. 4. George Jones • Red Berenson is pretty good. ATrain35 • Kurt Golder should also be mentioned here. When he took the program over in '97 they were a laughing stock and had just finished a winless regular season. He promised to take the team over and win a national championship within (I believe) five years and it only took him three. He has won three NCAA championships since, as well as four Big Ten championships and five runner-up finishes. That's pretty damn impressive. U of M_Boxer
