MICHIGAN FOOTBALL cornerback Raymon Taylor. Black and fifth-year senior right tackle Michael Schofield were on the coaches' honorable mention list. Senior defensive back Courtney Avery was one of 11 players to receive the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. TAYLOR LEWAN NAMED AN ALL-AMERICAN When an offensive tackle at Michigan wears the No. 77 jersey, people take notice. There is a lot of history with that number. And fifth-year senior left tackle Taylor Lewan has lived up to it. Lewan was named a 2013 first-team All-American selection by Sporting News, making him the first two-time first-team All-American since fellow No. 77 Jake Long achieved the feat in 2006 and '07. In its release of the All-American team, Sporting News said Lewan was "a mauler with a nasty attitude and strong technique. He'll be the first offensive lineman taken in the draft, and has proven his ability to compete (and win individual battles) against the elite pass rushers of the game." Last season, he was voted a firstteam All-American by the Walter Camp Foundation, the Associated Press and ESPN.com. Lewan is one of five Wolverines who wore the No. 77 jersey to earn first-team All-America honors, along with Long, Jon Jansen (1998), Paul Seymour (1972) and Arthur Walker (1954). Just two other jersey numbers have had five All-Americans in Michigan football history. The No. 1 jersey had Paul Goebel (1922), Anthony Carter (1980-82), Derrick Alexander (1992), David Terrell (2000) and Braylon Edwards (2004). The No. 72 jersey had Allen Wahl (1949-50), Dan Dierdorf (1970), Walt Downing (1977), Ed Muransky (1981) and John Elliott (1986‑87). DEVIN GARDNER INJURED, WILL PLAY IN THE BOWL GAME At the annual Michigan Football Bust Dec. 9, redshirt junior quarterback Devin Gardner entered the room with his usual big smile. Unfortunately, not everything about his appearance was so usual. Gardner had a large boot on his left foot, and he used crutches to support himself while he found his seat on the dais. Gardner — who was sacked 35 times this season, 24 of which occurred in Michigan's brutal November slate — was visibly hobbled by the end of Michigan's 42-41 loss to Ohio State in the regular-season finale. After the game, he wore a boot on his foot during the press conference. Gardner was held out of practice during the Wolverines' first week of bowl preparation, but Michigan head coach Brady Hoke said his quarterback will be ready for the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl Dec. 28. "He's got some turf toe, and we're just trying to be precautionary and get him healthy," Hoke said. "He's
