An Ann Arbor native that walked on to the team, Dwyer had never seen action previously in his career; the Wolverines wanted to reward him for being a hard worker and consummate teammate. Dwyer would not have played, however, if not for Michigan's three captains — seniors Mac Bennett and Derek DeBlois, and sophomore Andrew Copp. The trio approached the coaches a few days before the matchup with Team USA to lobby on their teammate's behalf.
