MICHIGAN FOOTBALL FOOTBALL NOTEBOOK HALL OF FAMER A College Football Hall of Fame inductee in 2011, former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr will be inducted into the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame Class of 2013 during a ceremony Dec. 30 at the Pasadena Convention Center. He will go in with former Ohio State offensive tackle Orlando Pace and Southern Cal wide receiver Lynn Swann. Carr coached in four Rose Bowls during his 13-year head-coaching career at Michigan (1995-2007) — the 1998, 2004, 2005 and 2007 games — going 1-3 in those contests, including a 21-16 victory over Washington State that propelled U-M to the 1997 national title. An assistant with the Wolverines from 1980-94, Carr coached in seven more Rose Bowls under Bo Schembechler (1980-89) and Gary Moeller (1990-94), helping the Maize and Blue to victories in 1981, 1989 and 1993. PHOTO BY PER KJELDSEN ON THE RISE In the 41-year history of true freshman eligibility, only 30 linebackers have ever seen time defensively for the Maize and Blue, and among them, just 10 had recorded six tackles or more in a single game. Ben Gedeon became the 11th to do so with six against Ohio State. His six stops are the second-most ever recorded by a true freshman linebacker against the Buckeyes, trailing only junior Desmond Morgan, who had 10 in 2011. MOVING FORWARD True freshman tailback DeVeon Smith has not had as many carries as classmate Derrick Green — his 22 this season are a little more than one-fourth of Green's 82 — but he has shown in limited opportunity the ability to move
