INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS Getting To Know Men's Track And Field Senior Herman Washington Senior Herman Washington has competed in the NCAA regional preliminary rounds in each of the past three seasons, and with new coach Jerry Clayton coming into the program, Washington is hoping to have his best year yet. Washington is a hurdles specialist who set personal bests in the 60-meter hurdles (7.93), 110-meter hurdles (13.82) and 200-meter dash (22.38) last season. Nickname: "Most everyone on the team calls me, 'Herm.' I'm usually the one giving the nicknames to other people. The one that has stuck the most is for [sophomore] high jumper Stephen Sykes. I called him, 'Scuba Steve,' and everyone else jumped on board." I liked the professor we had in there. His teaching style was really engaging. He genuinely wanted you to do good in life, rather than just chase after a grade." Other Sports He Enjoys Playing: "Basketball. I love playing basketball. We play pretty often. We get some teammates together and play at the Intramural Building." How He Likes Spending Time With Teammates: "We play a lot of video games. We play a lot of NBA 2K, and really anything on the PlayStation. We like playing fighting games." Favorite TV Show: "I like 'Suits.' My go-to is always 'Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air,' though. You can't go wrong with that."
