BASKETBALL RECRUITING in 2014-15, he spent much of his high school senior season working on his inside game. "I got stronger and was more ag- gressive around the basket. Rebound- ing was probably my biggest contri- bution for the team and also scoring around the basket," said Geben, who averaged 14.0 points, 14.0 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game, while St. Maria Goretti started the season 17-7. "With our team's style, there wasn't a whole lot of opportunities for me to be on the perimeter. My presence was needed around the basket." Exposure to a more physical style of basketball contributed to Geben's decision to leave Lithuania for the United States in 2011, he said. Three years into the experience, he couldn't be happier. "Basketball was important, but I also looked at the education part of it," Geben said. "Of course, becoming better as a basketball player was part of that decision. It's been a lot of fun. I've met a lot of great people and made a lot of new friends. It's a wonderful overall experience." Another factor playing in Geben's favor for early minutes is Notre Dame's foreign tour in Italy this Au- gust. "I'm really looking forward to that," he said. "It should be a lot of fun go- ing to Europe and visiting schools and playing in games. I think that will help our team chemistry a lot and the whole team knowing how to play with each other better." Geben said he speaks with head coach Mike Brey weekly and has also kept in contact with several Irish play- ers. During a hectic high school bas- ketball season, he has done his best to stay up to date with Notre Dame on television. Like future teammate Geben, 2014 signee Bonzie Colson appreciates the opportunity the Italy tour will pro- vide. Minutes will be there for the taking, and the Barrington, R.I., for- ward thinks his game will translate well from St. Andrew's High School to Notre Dame. "It's going to be good in the late summer to be out there and know the guys well and play with them," Col- son said of the Italy experience. "Just getting used to playing with a differ- ent team in a different style with dif- ferent players is good. I'll be able to go out there and play games with them and just see what it's like to play at the next level in college." The 6-2, 175-pound shooting guard is the No. 129 player in the nation, the No. 26 shooting guard in the land and the No. 2 player in Kentucky according to 247Sports. The Knott County Central (Hindman, Ky.) pros- pect originally committed to Tennessee, but re- opened his recruitment and has received heavy interest from Boston College, Vanderbilt and Butler.
