BASKETBALL RECRUITING scholarships next season. Sophomore forward Eric Katenda's unclear future — he continues to ex- perience issues with his right knee and will undergo a platelet-rich plasma treatment this spring — could lead to a medical hardship which would open a third scholarship for next season. With as many as three scholarships likely open for next season, Brey expressed his desire to add another 2014 recruit and a transfer. "We have scholarships to give, and we'll thoroughly investigate brining in one, maybe two," he said. "There's nothing out there now. In about two months, there will be a lot of move- ment again. It would be great timing for one or two transfers or for a high school senior signing." Notre Dame has kept close tabs on 2014 power forward Jackson Davis of Lexington (Ky.) Lafayette. The Irish reached out to the 6-8, 200-pound prospect shortly after his decommit- ment from Rice Feb. 23. A strong se- nior season has led to interest from a number of schools, including Kansas State, Vanderbilt and Louisville. Brey attended a Lafayette playoff game March 7. Davis' father, Johnathon Davis, told Blue & Gold Illustrated the Irish will be a finalist for his son's services. "It's a great school," he said. "He's going to school for the right reasons. Notre Dame is one of the schools where you get a degree from there and that says something. We definitely have an interest in Notre Dame." Davis is the No. 62 power forward in the country and No. 5 player in Ken- tucky according to 247Sports. Brey also watched 2014 point guard Matt Farrell of Point Pleasant Beach (N.J.) High March 4. Farrell committed to Boston College in the fall, but later decommitted. The Irish extended an offer March 10, and Farrell is expected to visit for the Blue-Gold Game April 12. He also has offers from St. Joseph's and Rutgers, among others. The 6-1, 170-pounder is the No. 61 point guard in the nation and the No. 12 prospect in New Jersey accord- ing to 247Sports. ✦ Notre Dame joined Kansas State, Vanderbilt and Louisville in pursing Lexington (Ky.)
