Years of service by former Notre Dame basketball coach Digger Phelps as an ESPN college basket-
ball analyst before announcing his retirement at age 72 on April 7. Phelps also served at Notre
Dame 20 years from 1971-91, recording a 393-197 record, highlighted by the program's lone Final Four
appearance in 1978. Phelps, who was inducted into Notre Dame's Ring of Honor Jan. 19, beat a recent
bout with bladder cancer after doing the same with prostate cancer years earlier.
