He has undergone a pair of surgeries on his left shoulder in recent years. Kelly said after the game he had no further information. Sophomore running back Greg Bryant provided the most thrilling run of the day by juking his way down the field for a 51-yard romp. He compiled 95 yards on 12 rushing attempts. "We have to work with him on those stutter steps. I don't know what those are," Kelly quipped about Bryant's juk- ing style. "But he's a physical kid, and he's fun to coach. He's full of energy, he's got a smile on his face and he loves to play the game." Notre Dame now enters the offseason with the seeds of a quarterback competi- tion. With an NCAA rule change allow- ing coaches to be present for summer workouts — although without the use of a football — as well as two hours per week of film study, Kelly said the coach- ing staff will have plenty of opportuni- ties to evaluate Golson and Zaire.
