is the only true point guard returning in 2014-15. Farrell helps fill a void and provide depth immediately on the ros- ter, but the coaching staff will redshirt him under ideal situations next year. "Coach and I hit it off, and his rela- tionships with point guards are spe- cial," said Farrell. "What he's done in the past is unbelievable. "We had a chance to talk about cer- tain things. It was a good talk. … I didn't really know they would offer until they did. It was a special feeling." Farrell visited South Bend and stayed with freshman guard Steve Vasturia during the Blue-Gold Game weekend April 11-13. Brey could not comment on Farrell at the April 14 end-of-year ban- quet — he can talk about fellow com- mitments Martin Geben and Bonzie Colson because they signed a letter of intent in November — but could on April 16, the beginning of the spring signing period. The 6-1, 170-pound guard averaged 21 points, seven assists, five steals and four rebounds this season. In his ca- reer he notched more than 1,400 points, set a school record for assists with 580, neared 500 steals and was named the conference player of the year as a ju- nior. NJ.com selected him first-team all- state and as the Ocean County Player of the Year after this senior season. "I'm really excited for the oppor- tunity. Some bigger schools have re- cruited me, but Notre Dame really stuck out to me because of the special place it is," said Farrell, who originally committed to Boston College and re- ceived heavy interest from Rutgers, Providence and Creighton late in the process. "Just playing in the ACC, let alone doing it as such an amazing school, was an opportunity I couldn't pass up. "I can't wait to be a part of Notre Dame basketball." ✦
