FAN FORUM We believe the school colors would be im- pressively displayed with gold end zones, with then "Notre Dame" and "Fighting Irish" on the different sides outlined in blue. IN SEARCH OF HIGHER GROUND Basketball: There comes a time with many coaches in certain sports when it's simply time to move on. I believe that time has come for Mike Brey. Granted, the Irish have had occasional special teams under Mike, but with "Fi- nal 64" losses taking place regularly and this recent season falling apart, let's try someone new. Football: If the coaching staff is able to develop both lines, especially the de- fensive side at least above mediocrity, I think the Irish produce points on the of- fensive side and surprise their detractors. With a mobile quarterback, the playing field gets larger and our speedy backs, with decent blocking, will explode for some large gains and the 30-point-per- game average will accelerate. Several opponents on the schedule have HUGE capabilities with their of- fenses and therefore, outscoring them may be the determinant between a "W" and an "L." F.A. "Sock" Sokolowski Centerville, Ohio FROM THE WEBSITE During a May 7 interview with "College Football Play- book" on Sirius XM 91, Notre Dame head coach Brian Kelly indicated that this spring was more difficult with projected starting quarterback Everett Golson than he thought while Golson was trying to shake off some rust from his 2013 fall suspension because of academic reasons. That prompted numerous responses on BlueandGold.com, including: Sonlitknight: Maybe feeling a bit more heat from Malik Zaire than he expected? Psdo51: It may just be that Kelly doesn't want him to feel comfortable that he is "back" and it's his job. Zaire has a boatload of confidence also, which is good because both guys will be needed at some point. Golson has had only a handful of practices and the spring game, so the summer is very important, as it is to everybody, but especially a rusty starting QB. Merlin08: Seems like Kelly has been paving the way for us to see more of Zaire then we thought. It could be that Golson is doing just fine, but Kelly still is a politician and knows how to BS his way into and out of situations. And if he thinks Zaire deserves more PT or to be the starter, he can easily create it. I wouldn't look at this as much on Golson's faults/difficulties. Hemy: I believe there are two main issues: 1. Timing, timing, timing — getting the ball out on time to his receivers; we saw this during the Blue- Gold Game. Mike Mayock remarked on it during the telecast and it's something that needs attention. 2. Pocket awareness and feeling comfortable in the pocket. As Mayock said — "I know Everett can beat you with his feet. I want to see him beat you with the passing game more than he has shown." Wjasonp: This is motivational coach speak, in my opinion. Golson has had just 15 practices after sitting out a full year. No need to hit the panic button yet. Golson will be fine. Edd1066: I hope you are right, this team and staff is out of excuses on why our offense doesn't function as well as it should. Simm: Plus, he's trying to keep Malik interested. Nothing more than coachspeak here.
