FIELD OF GOLD
I know the decision has already been
made to have the color of the new Notre
Dame Stadium surface traditional green.
It would be nice to incorporate the Notre
Dame Gold in the end-zone areas.
It would be interesting to poll the fans
and see if an alternate color would be
preferred for the playing field surface.
It's been a long time coming and I'm
very pleased to see that the administra-
tion is supporting the change. I hope
there will be some "Irish" or blocked
"ND" as part of the field design.
Looking forward to an exciting 2014
season.

Mr. Fox, from what we've heard, the
monogram ND in the center of the field is a
strong likelihood once the renovation project
begins May 19.
BlueandGold.com did a survey on what
the preference for field designs would be.
For the middle of the field, the overwhelm-
ing choice was to have the interlocking ND
instead of just leaving it bare, as it has been.
In the end zones, the preference was to
have "Notre Dame" printed in one end zone
and "Fighting Irish" in the other, although
some have preferred the slanted lines, which
have been used since 1979.
You raise an interesting point about incor-
porating the gold into the end zone. Notre
Dame's Frank Eck Stadium for baseball de-
buted with FieldTurf May 9, and while the
infield area looked like a traditional dirt sur-
face, it was actually gold FieldTurf.

The "infield turf" in Notre Dame's Frank Eck Stadium actually is gold FieldTurf. Might that be used in the
football stadium's end zones?
