FOOTBALL RECRUITING case … Reid knows he has the talent and work ethic to get to the NFL one day, and he is looking to find the right fit defensively … He wants to attend a strong academic institution, and he wants to play for a defensive coordi- nator that will help take his game to the next level … During his visit to South Bend, Reid admitted that Notre Dame met all his criteria … Alabama, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Penn State are the frontrunners here, but the Irish likely hold a slight edge over the Nittany Lions … Reid will participate in Nike's The Opening this summer in Beaverton, Ore., and will make a com- mitment closer to National Signing Day in February. JASHON CORNELL DE, 6-4, 270 Saint Paul, Minn. (Cretin-Derham Hall) Junior Season: Accumulated 70 tackles, 20 stops for loss, 15 sacks, three fumble recoveries and scored one touchdown. 247Sports Ranking: Five-star player, the No. 32 prospect nationally, the No. 5 weakside defensive end in the land and the No. 1 recruit in Minnesota. Skinny: Notre Dame has always been consid- ered the school most likely to land Cornell, but Michigan State has made a major push throughout the spring … The Spartans seem to be the stiffest competition here, but Michi- gan is also in the mix … Cornell is ex- pected to visit South Bend in June and make a commitment in August … The Irish have a history of success in land- ing players from Cretin-Derham Hall, including linebacker James Onwualu in 2013, wide receiver Michael Floyd in 2008, offensive tackle Ryan Harris in 2003 and fullback Rashon Powers- Neal in 2001.
