COMMITMENT PROFILE FILM EVALUATION Strengths: Grant Newsome has size and athleticism that can't be taught — he was simply born with them. He engages defenders and keeps his legs churning, and is very natural at getting downfield to the second level to find linebackers to block. Once he latches on, those players don't stand much of a chance. He has long arms and enough strength to dominate as a high school lineman. Areas of Improvement: Like most high school offensive linemen — espe- cially taller ones — Newsome has a tendency to play high. When he engages a defender, he loses his knee bend and simply drives over them due to his power. That won't suffice at the next level. Newsome is also inexperienced with pass-blocking. While he kicks back smoothly, his post to the inside isn't consistent. He can also add more strength to succeed at the next level. Michigan Player Comparison: Michael Schofield was a tall, long offensive lineman with good athletic ability but not yet refined technique. He spent five years at Michigan, 2009-13, and by the time he left, had developed into an elite tackle, going in the third round of the NFL Draft. Like Schofield, Newsome has the height to play tackle, but could also excel if needed on the interior. — Analysis from TheWolverine.com
