PREP PROFILES Recruiting is moving at a much faster pace these days in comparison to prior years, evidenced by Notre Dame showing interest in Glenwood Springs (Colo.) High School quarterback Dante Sparaco, a class of 2017 recruit. The 6-3, 210-pound sophomore holds an offer from Col- orado State, but is hoping to add one from the Irish. Sparaco camped in South Bend this spring and caught the attention of Notre Dame quar- terbacks coach Matt LaFleur. "It was pretty incredible up there at camp," Sparaco said. "Coach LaF- leur made it real comfortable for me, showed me around and let me know that he wanted me up for a game. I just appreciated that he took so much time with me, knowing I'm only a sopho- more." Sparaco took the tour of campus, met with the coaching staff and even spoke with a few academic advisors at Notre Dame. However, he hasn't taken in a game. That will change Sept. 6. "I'm going to be up there for the Michigan game," he said. "It's just one of those games you have to see at some point. It's at night, and it's going to be an incredible atmosphere. It's just awe- some, and I'm excited." Although he only holds the one offer from the Rams, Sparaco has received some major college interest. While he doesn't claim a dream offer, Notre Dame would be tough to beat. "There are some schools sending information and letters, but only the one offer still," he said. "That of- fer was incredible, but I'm just hop- ing to add more from Notre Dame, Penn State, Michi- gan, Stanford, some West Coast schools, and others. "If Notre Dame offers, it would be tough to turn down. That's the best way to put it." Sparaco isn't close to making a final decision and his recruitment is still very much in its early stages. "I'm not being too picky yet on what I'm looking for in a school," he said. "Academics are important to me and my family, so that will play a role. Also, I want to go somewhere that I can learn to become a better player and person." As a freshman, Sparaco threw for 1,750 yards, ran for 450 yards and to- taled 22 touchdowns. On defense, he racked up 75 tackles and seven sacks. — Tom Loy Colorado QB Is Eager To See A Game In South Bend DANTE SPARACO Glenwood Springs Glenwood Springs, Colo.
