FOOTBALL RECRUITING ROUNDUP Recruiting Notes With the recruiting process moving much faster these days, Notre Dame has already extended 47 schol- arship offers out to recruits from the class of 2016. Blue & Gold Illustrated takes a look at three junior prospects that hold offers from the Irish. • Potomac (Md.) The Bullis School four-star pro-style quarterback Dwayne Haskins added an offer from the Irish June 8 and made his first visit to campus June 24. "The campus is beautiful, and I enjoyed the people there," Haskins told 247Sports national director of recruiting Steve Wiltfong. "The facilities, the education, the beauty of the stadium and Touchdown Jesus were all great. It's a great feeling being there." The current plan for the 6-2, 185-pounder is to return to South Bend for an unofficial visit Oct. 4 when Notre Dame hosts Stanford. Ohio State is widely considered the favorite to land Haskins, but a decision is not expected anytime soon. Per 247Sports, Haskins is the No. 42 overall recruit in the 2016 class, the No. 3 pro-style quarterback in the land and the No. 2 prospect in Maryland. • After two visits to campus, Huntersville (N.C.) Southlake Christian Academy three-star running back Robert Washington picked up an offer from Notre Dame April 23. The 5-10, 210-pounder visited South Bend Nov. 23, 2013, for the game against BYU and then returned for an unofficial visit April 6. "The Notre Dame offer is really big for me," Washington said. "[Running backs coach] Tony Alford told me to stay patient and let the process play out a little and that good news will end up on my plate. I did that and let it happen, and like he said, Notre Dame ended up offering me. "It means a lot because it's a huge school with a great football program." North Carolina, Ohio State, UCLA and others are competing with Notre Dame for Washington's services, and a decision isn't expected in the near future. Per 247Sports, Washington is the No. 19 running back in the 2016 class and the No. 9 player in North Carolina. • Notre Dame recruits well in its home state, and the Irish are hoping that trend continues with Fort Wayne (Ind.) Bishop Luers four-star wide receiver Austin Mack. The 6-2, 205-pounder holds offers from Michi- gan, Ohio State, Michigan State and many others, but Notre Dame is one of the early favorites. "I'll be up to South Bend for the Michigan game on Sept. 6 and then for the Stanford game on Oct. 4," Mack said. "I always have a good time up there. I'm just trying to go and check out the game atmosphere and see my boy [linebacker] Jaylon [Smith] do his thing. It should be fun. "It's just a special place. Getting the Notre Dame offer was really big for me. Coming from a Catholic school, getting the Notre Dame offer was special because it's a school that's just like mine." Per 247Sports, Mack is the No. 120 overall recruit in the 2016 class, the No. 25 wide receiver in the land and the No. 1 player in Indiana. — Tom Loy Fort Wayne (Ind.)
