• 23-game unbeaten streak by USC (one tie) that began at Notre Dame in 1971 and continued (23-14 in 1973). • 16-game winning streak by Miami (31-30 in 1988). Not including bowl losses in 1985 and 1986, the Hurricanes won 36 straight regular-season games. • 16-game winning streak by Florida State (31-24 in 1993). Notre Dame ending streaks has been hardly confined to football. Chronologically, here are some of the other most noteworthy: Jan. 13, 1973 — Marquette's 81-game winning streak at home ends with a 71-69 loss on a Dwight Clay jumper from the corner in the closing seconds. Jan. 19, 1974 — A year and six days later, Clay's corner jumper ends UCLA's 88-game win streak (still the NCAA record) with a 71-70 win. March 5, 1977 — A raucous Irish student body is named NBC's MVP after upsetting 29-0 and No. 1 San Francisco in men's basketball. Oct. 2, 1994 — Women's soccer ties North Carolina 0-0 in St. Louis, ending the Tar Heels' 92-game win streak (still the NCAA record). Jan. 15, 2001 — Women's basketball stuns Connecticut 92-76 to halt UConn's 30-game win streak and help the Irish to the national title. June 7, 2002 — Baseball team ends No. 1 Florida State's 25-game win streak 10-4 in the first game of an NCAA Super Regional series, and the Irish later advance to the College World Series for the first time in 45 years. Jan. 30, 2005 — Women's basketball posts a 65-59 win at UConn to snap the Huskies' 112-game home court win streak, including 55 at Gampel Pavilion. — Lou Somogyi Dick Lynch scored the only touchdown in a 7-0 Notre Dame win over Oklahoma.
