"You like to have two or three differ-
ent ways to run a certain play," Den-
brock said. "You're running the same
play, but there's extra window dressing
involved.
"You'll always want that kind of vari-
ety as a play caller, so it doesn't all look
the same."
Notre Dame does not pick the added
variations willy-nilly. Rather, the de-
fense's looks force the changes. If the
Irish could accurately predict an oppos-
ing defense's game plan, the call sheet
would likely fit on an 8.5-by-11 piece of
paper.
"I've had some call sheets that just
tried to give answers for many, many
things," Kelly said. "So if you're seeing
different looks, you have answers for
them. Your call sheet is still going to be
