BY DOUGLAS FARMER A play gone awry stayed just within enough control for Everett Golson to seal Notre Dame's 49-39 victory over Navy at FedEx Field Nov. 1 in Land- over, Md. Clinging to a three-point lead, the senior quarterback turned to hand off the ball eight yards from the end zone. When he extended it toward sophomore running back Tarean Folston, Golson lost control and de- posited the pigskin on the gridiron. Without hesitation, he scooped up the ball and dodged a few defenders before falling into the end zone, pro- viding the game's final score with less than 90 seconds remaining. "We knew this was going to be a challenge," Irish head coach Brian Kelly said. "We played a lot of young guys on defense, and we were going to have to outscore them. That's what it ended up being: a game where we outscored them. "That's really all you can ask for — win the football game, get a lot of young guys some experience, and then not have to play Navy again until next year."
