DEFENSE IN THE DESERT
To have a chance to win at Florida
State this year, Notre Dame head coach
Brian Kelly acknowledged the Irish
needed to get the point total into the
30s. They did get to 33 briefly with 13
seconds left — only to have it erased
because of a controversial offensive
interference call that preserved the
Seminoles' 31-27 victory.
At Arizona State, the situation again
appears to be one where anything less
than 30 points scored by Notre Dame
might not be enough. The Irish de-
feated ASU 37-34 last year — and that
was when the defense for both teams
