UNDER THE DOME Irish student-athletes excelling on the field and in the classroom Molly Seidel — Cross Country The junior earned first-team all-conference honors with a fifth- place finish at the ACC Championships Oct. 31. Seidel ran the 6K in 20:11.2, pacing Notre Dame to a fifth-place finish behind North Carolina, Florida State, Virginia and North Carolina State. Only 37 seconds behind Seidel, junior Danielle Aragon also gar- nered All-ACC honors with a 19th-place finish. The duo helped the Irish outrun No. 16 Syracuse (eighth) and No. 30 Boston College (seventh). Cal Petersen — Hockey For the first time this season, Notre Dame relied on one goal- tender for an entire weekend, looking to the freshman to open Hockey East play. Petersen delivered, making 34 saves in a 3-2 Irish victory over Vermont Oct. 31 and 44 more in a 2-2 overtime tie Nov. 1. The latter figure marked a career high for Petersen. The Catamounts had 29 more shots then the Irish in the two games, making Petersen's saves crucial to the Irish getting four points during the weekend. Lindsey Streepey — Diving The junior won the three-meter dive despite facing a former Olympian in Purdue's Mary Beth Dunnichay, who finished fifth in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing in the 10-meter syn- chronized diving competition. Streepey posted a score of 313.28 to outpace Dunnichay by more than eight points in a dual meet Nov. 1. Her score qualified Streepey for the NCAA Zone C meet, a first step on the route to the NCAA Championships. Evan Panken — Soccer The junior midfielder was tabbed as the ACC Player of the Week after he combined for two goals and two assists in a 1-1 tie against No. 12 Michigan State Oct. 29 and a 4-1 win over Pitt Nov. 1. The victory over Pitt secured the ACC regular-season title for the Irish. He played a part in three goals against Pitt, assisting on the first two tallies of the match and scoring the final goal.
