1 Time in Notre Dame's football history from 1887-2013 that the Fighting Irish defeated a team that scored at least 38 points. That occurred on Nov. 30, 1991, when head coach Lou Holtz's No. 17-ranked team emerged with a 48-42 victory at Hawaii. 2 Times in a three-game period in 2014 that Notre Dame de- feated a team that scored more than 38 points: 50-43 versus North Carolina Oct. 11 and 49-39 against Navy Nov. 1. 24 Consecutive points Navy scored on Notre Dame Nov. 1 to take a 31-28 lead before losing 49-39. In the 88-game history of the series dating back to 1927, the only other time the Midshipmen tallied more unanswered points against the Irish was 28 in a row during a 35-14 victory in 1963 with Heisman Trophy winner Roger Staubach at quarterback. The 39 points this year, though, were the most by Navy against Notre Dame in regulation. 48 Years since Notre Dame last played a Big Ten team in the month of November — until hosting Northwestern this Nov. 15. The previous such contest was the famous No. 1 versus No. 2 showdown at Michigan State on Nov. 19, 1966, that ended in a 10-10 verdict but helped the Irish to the national title. The Big Ten thereafter put the kibosh on scheduling non-conference games late in the season. (Notre Dame did play at Purdue on Dec. 1, 2001, after the originally scheduled Sept. 15 game was postponed because of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.) The Irish do not play a Big Ten foe next year and only one in 2016, Michigan State at home on Sept. 17. 53 Overall ranking in 247Sports Composite (a compilation of the all the major recruiting rankings) of Notre Dame freshman linebacker Nyles Morgan in the 2014 recruiting class. Morgan, now the starting Mike linebacker in place of the injured Joe Schmidt, was the highest-rated Irish player in the 23-man class. Others from the class among the top 100 were offensive lineman Quenton Nelson (63) and wide receiver Justin Brent (95). The previous year, the top Irish player in the 247Sports Composite was linebacker Jaylon Smith at No. 2, behind Ole Miss defensive lineman Robert Nkemdiche.
