FOOTBALL RECRUITING
strong mix of academics and athletics.
It's no surprise that Stanford and Notre
Dame make up the top two for the 6-0,
196-pounder. Edwards' recruitment has
been a wild one to watch. He commit-
ted to both Ohio State and Auburn on
separate occasions, only to decommit
twice during this recruiting cycle.
Now an uncommitted prospect, Ed-
wards will give Notre Dame strong
consideration. One thing working in
favor of the Irish is that the official visit
to Stanford occurred Oct. 24. The Cardi-
nal may hold the edge now, but Notre
Dame could change that soon.
Per 247Sports, Edwards is the No. 29
safety in the country and the No. 56
prospect in the state of Florida. He is
not listed in the national ratings.
Notre Dame entered the party
late for Stafford (Va.) Colonial Forge
three-star safety Gary Jennings. The
6-2, 205-pound recruit already held of-
fers from Boston College, Wisconsin,
Vanderbilt, Virginia and others, but
added an offer from the Irish Sept. 30
after a strong start to his senior cam-
paign. This will be his first visit to
South Bend.
As a two-way player in high school,
Jennings is being recruited as a safety
by many schools, while others like him
at wide receiver. With Notre Dame
looking to added two defensive backs
and another receiver in this class, Jen-
nings would be a welcomed addition
to this class.
Jennings is listed as the No. 121 wide
receiver in the nation and the No. 36
prospect in Virginia by 247Sports. ✦
